Day 3!

This week my brother Ben and I are trying to cycle from St David’s in Wales right across the widest point of the UK to Lowestoft.

When I dreamed this Grand Challenge up in lockdown it seemed like a fantastic idea and made perfect sense, right now it makes no sense!

What’s a CVM Grand Challenge?

Essentially this is all about doing a charity fundraising event for CVM, raise a minimum of £1000 for CVM by doing a challenge that will push you to the limit and be a decent achievement for you personally.

So this is what we are doing, dressed as Batman and Robin we are cycling across the UK pulling a bathtub on wheels to make as much noise about the work of CVM as we can.

This 5 part blog series is all about endurance, challenge and spiritual fitness. Lets go!

Day 3 – Breaking to build

A few years ago at a CVM event in Lanzarote, a guy called Phil decided to put his trust in Jesus after one of the evening’s talks. Phil is the UK’s 5th Strongest man.  Based in Sheffield he has a gym that helps prepare himself and others to reach their physical goals.

I remember chatting with Phil on one of CVM’s online events during lockdown and he was talking about the process of building muscle.

Muscles are built by breaking the muscle fibers so that the body then rebuilds the damage by fusing the fibres together and, with various proteins and supplements the muscles can grow back larger and more capable than before.

The simple reflection on this is that God uses situations, moments and seasons in our lives to build us up even when it actually feels like brokenness.

As you read the Bible God uses this principle, taking the life moments of people to teach and refine in them a greater source of strength, patience, integrity, trust, love and more.

If anyone else out there can support and cheer these guys on with a donation, please do – it makes a real difference!
