CVM MAN LEADS IN HISTORIC RACE

Update from our ‘motorsport man’.

It has been a good month that started with a big event in the North East – ‘The Croft Nostalgia Event’ near Darlington. The show is a huge vintage and classic show with air displays (including the Avro Lancaster), military war time displays, vintage clothes displays/sales, a big classic car display and of course historic racing on the Croft track. We had a good number of visitors with friends joining us ‘Vintage Jesus race co.’ on both days from six different churches across the region. We also had the opportunity to interact with fellow Formula Junior racers in the paddock – not least because we were struggling with engine problems. While that was frustrating I was still able to qualify, and start both races by overtaking cars on the opening lap. Sadly, both races were quite short lived in the end. I’m pleased to say that we have now been able to test the car during an ‘off grid’ airfield session in Suffolk and have since managed to identify and fix the carburation problem.

In August I was also able to take the car and spend time chatting with the 14-18 year olds at ‘The Track’ karting camp in Saltburn later in the month (sixty present in all on the week!) ‘The Track’ is one of my partner ministries and is a Scripture Union camp with mission and bible teaching mixed with go-karts and trials bikes and is run by a great crew. It was fantastic to do some demonstration laps in the car for the kids, help and share with them. At present, it looks like I may well possibly be getting involved again next year, and will be taking a youth group from my own church too.

September is looking a little quieter, though we will be testing and racing at Snetterton on the 23rdwith guests coming for a day out and a BBQ. Sadly, we had to pull out of the Oulton Park ‘Historic Gold Cup’ event a couple of weekends back because funds are ailing somewhat as we head into the latter part of the season. After Snetterton we still have two further races in October. We of course were hoping for that illusive free invite to the Goodwood Revival race this weekend, with the other rear engine Formula Junior cars. However, 2017 will have to go down as the year the big fish got away. Though disappointed of course, ultimately Goodwood is one race in a season and if nothing else it gives us something to hope for once again next year...

Please keep praying for us and the events as we continue with our season and with sharing Jesus in and through cars and racing. I have attached some pictures of Croft and the race trailer that has steadily been brought up to standard this year – now with full tailboard advert/display.

Many thanks and blessings,
