GamServe are are committed to seeing changes in society to better safeguard children and the vulnerable to the harm of a gambling addiction. They believe that current legislation does not protect them from developing gambling addictions. They observe that the bombardment of gambling advertising all day long, is having a detrimental effect on society.
GamServe believe that the "strict controls" that are already in place do not provide adequate protection. They recently attempted to set up a petition on the parliament website, however, this was rejected as they claimed they were not responsible. GamServe’s Ian Bartlett said, “We understand Ofcom and the Asa monitor the content of adverts but surely legislation is a government issue! We believe action needs to be taken now, as lives and relationships are continuing to be devastated by loss.â€
GamServe would like to see a 9pm watershed on televised gambling advertising as we believe that this simple measure would better protect the current and future generations.
