SPARKING FLAMES AND PUTTING OUT FIRES
Firefighters for Christ - encouraging firefighters to live their lives for Jesus.
Firefighters for Christ (FFC) was started 1978 in California by two men who simply prayed for firefighters. As a result, groups have now been set up all over the USA, Canada, Northern Ireland and the Philippines, other Christian Firefighter groups that are associated with FFC can be found in Europe, e.g. Germany and Sweden.
The mission of FFC is to ‘Encourage firefighters to live their lives for Jesus Christ’. Hebrews 10:24-25 – ‘And let us consider how we can spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching’.
The opportunities it gives are vast:-
The annual FFC International event followed by a Firefighters Retreat at Hume Lake, California (around March/April each year) is a great time of fun and fellowship and most important, a time of praying and learning together.
An annual Mission Possible which takes place in either California or Northern Ireland. Here operational firefighters have the opportunity to ride with the operational crews.
The bi-annual Police and Fire World Games which occurs around the world are always attended by some from FFC who take part and provide Christian support to those attending.
Emergency response teams which go to situations such as Philippines, to help with search and rescue, clearing up and ministry.
Teams which go out to places such as Mexico and Africa to support, train and minister.
Simon Hewitt heads up FFC in the UK.
“I can certainly recommend it, it has provided me with the opportunity to meet other firefighters from across the world. It is not solely for Christians, there are still opportunities to join in some activities.”
