Free community resources for CVM for Nebraska film
Nebraska is an inspirational film, starring the wonderful actor Bruce Dern, and directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants). It tells the story of an unlikely road trip shared by Woody, a determined old man, and David, his long suffering son.
Woody receives a letter in the post that suggests he's won a million dollar sweepstake. Against the advice of his family he embarks on claiming the prize in person from Nebraska - by any means necessary. Although surprised by his determination, David soon realises that his father is becoming increasingly frail and without indulging his father's fantasy, reluctantly agrees to drive him to Nebraska.
As their journey together progresses, David uncovers stories from Woody's past life, as the old man admits a series of revelations. Slowly, David's empathy grows and he begins to see his father in a new light.
This inspirational film, and the free resources provided by Damaris Trust, will help us all to reflect on how we can care for the challenging people in our own lives. In particular, how can we treat with dignity those who are in their later years? How can we value their story and respect their hopes and dreams?
