Lee Higson is a professional Master Mariner and has worked at sea for over 20 years on container ships, gas carriers and latterly FPSO's (ships with an oil rig on top for the layman). He also had ten years in the reserve forces, being both in the T.A. whilst a student and then with the Royal Navy Reserve as an officer in the Amphibious Warfare branch. Prior to joining the Merchant Navy, Lee studied theology at Bangor University (1994-97) and recently graduated from Cliff College (2014-17) with an MA in Mission.
Lee is married with 3 children. During his leave periods, Lee is also a lay minister in the Church of England (Reader) and regularly leads services and preaches. In 2009, he set up a small Men's group in his own church which has now grown into a thriving Men's ministry with men coming from several churches and some coming along who do not normally step foot inside a church. The format is generally bi-monthly breakfasts with other social events along the year. He is keen to push things along to the next level and is always looking for new ways of doing 'church', especially when it comes to men's work.
Lee came to faith at the age of 13 after having a 'Eureka' moment when he realised that God was indeed real and wanted a personal relationship with him through Christ. One of his passions is astronomy and every time he looks at a clear night sky, he is reminded of God's greatness, power and love.
"Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters; they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep"
