John Macaskill: Western Isles
My name is John Macaskill and i currently live and work out in the beatiful Island of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides. A group of Islands of the north west coast of Scotland.
I work as a Paramedic based out of Stornoway Ambulance Station. I'll soon be clocking up year 24 working with the Scottish Ambulance Service. How time flies! Before joining the Ambulance Service I worked at Dyce Airport in Aberdeen driving lorries catering Aeroplanes. Prior to that I was a Postman in the town I was born and brought up in, FortWilliam. I also lived and worked abroad for a couple of years in New Zealand. Where myself and the family were based in Dunedin in the South Island.
My wife and better half is Christine. We met on the dance floor at a wedding over 30 years ago. She is an absolute star and I love her to bits. Our two children, Peter and Rebecca have all grown up and flown the coup.
I've been a Christian since I was 7 when the Hospital Chaplin at Culduthel Hospital in Inverness led me to the Lord.
I grew up in a Christian home and my parents were a massive encouragment in my walk with God. I've been a member and elder/leader with different churches over the years as I've moved around. I go to worship where God leads me. So denominations aren't so important to me. We'll all be under the same roof in Glory! Since moving to the village of Carloway on the west side of the Island we are members and worship at the local Church of Scotland.
Despite my old weary bones and joints not being as good as they used to be, I still enjoy my sport. I'm a member at Stornoway Golf Club playing of a handicap of 15. I'm also the Manager of Lewis Camanachd Shinty Team and play in goal when required. Love my 5 a side footie with the guys at work and generally watch Sky Sport and BT Sport till the cows come home. Oh yeah. I'm a huge Blue Nose.
God has given me a calling to the local Church and to blokes in particular so hooking up with CVM is all in Gods plan I have no doubt. I have a heart to see men connect with Jesus and the Church. I'm hoping and praying God will move by His Spirit to transform the hearts and lives of the guys in my village and beyond.
