Why bother with a men’s group? (Part 5 of 5)

So here at CVM we have been long-time supporters of encouraging men into men’s groups, and I thought that now would be a great time to just write a few blogs about it: why we are so focussed on it and how you and your mates can benefit from them. So, without further ado – let’s go.

We contend for this

I remember being at The Gathering a few years ago and a young lad, 19, came to the front to give his life to follow Jesus. Kneeling at the cross he was handing over the control of his life to Jesus and the CVM team around him were rejoicing.

Behind the lad stood two other men, in tears. The men told us they were his dad and uncle and had come with him at this point of breakthrough in his life. The scene for me was overwhelming, and even now sitting in Sainsbury’s café writing this I am in tears.

There is nothing more moving, I don’t think, than seeing a life break through the veil and into surrender to Jesus. For loads of Christian fellas, they have never seen this moment or been part of it, and that’s why I think that a men’s group sharpening their tools and lives to contend for the message of Jesus to pierce the hearts and lives of their mates is ground-breaking.

Central to why I am part of a men’s group, why CVM works hard to keep encouraging and building this lonely space, is that we have the tools, ability, and fight to be Jesus’ hands, feet, words, and presence to a broken and beat-up world. We have estates in the UK where men have all but left, gangs of young men desperate to be heard and seen, to be valued and prove their worth. Prisons full of men, streets full of homeless men, men being victims of violence and perpetrating crimes, yet we have the antidote to social decay!

We have the hope of the nations in our midst.

A mobilised band of brothers who contend for the gospel are a group of renegades, rough riders who get lots wrong and might bumble along but they have a DNA of rescue, and the weight of heaven’s armies with them. I want to be part of something like that.

That’s one reason why at CVM we really want to encourage guys to be in a men’s group.

If you want to know more about setting up a men’s group, some tools and ideas to kick things off then you can get in touch with us here at CVM.

You can partner a men’s group with us and get plugged into the movement of CVM to introduce 1 million men to Jesus.
