Top 3 Men’s Events – CARS & BIKES

OK, welcome back to my top 3 men’s events list.

Here is number 2.

CARS & BIKES

I was having a meeting with a bloke the other day at Salisbury Cathedral, in his dog collar and black suit we chatted and talked faith but interestingly, we talked about motorbikes first!

He had three incredible classic bikes and loves to get out on them and visit various places around the UK and in particular churches tucked away in obscure, forgotten places. As a biker this was great and something I am more than happy to chat about.

Cars and bikes and the interest around them is massive with men. It’s a fantastic tool to make genuine friendships, and avoid any weird awkwardness because it’s just such a great common ground for so many men.

Back in 2016 when I was living in Derbyshire we had a small group of us who met for Who Let The Dad’s Out once a month. (It’s a load of men meeting up with their small kids, bacon rolls and newspapers out, and you invite the men on the edges of the church who also have small kids to come along for a few hours, a great way to meet guys who are not plugged into church.)

Anyway, we decided to run a car and bike morning. We got permission from the head teacher at the local school to use the school car park on the main road and sent out the invites to everyone we could. I managed to get a few lads involved down the pub too.

On the day we had a load of great cars turning up, from classics to new hot hatches, bikes and even a £300k brand new Lambo. Whilst we looked at the cars, we offered men who turned up or walked past a bacon roll and kicked off a conversation.

We had tech spec sheets on all the cars and bikes with free copies of the Crazy Way, CVM’s ‘gospel explained’ little booklet.

During the morning the consistent conversation with over 60 men was: ‘We didn’t know you church blokes were into cars and this stuff! Nice to meet you guys!’

Result. We were not out to convert anyone, just make some mates! Level 1 on the Winning Men.

This could be a great pop-up style event for the summer that really doesn’t need much work. Have a go!
