Happy Christmas from CVM.
2020 has almost officially ended and it has been a journey for sure. Perhaps you are looking forward to eating your Christmas dinner whilst in a zoom meeting with family somewhere, or maybe not. It has certainly been a very strange year.
I started to think about this and just how suddenly we all found ourselves in lockdown, isolated, quarantined and, in a physical way, marooned from real human connection and life.
Not only did this remind me that for so many people this has been the norm for years, unable to enjoy that real connection with people, but it also reminded me of just how much good news there is in the gospel for us all.
Jesus pitched his tent amongst ours, he moved into the community and became one of us. Not some distant vapour in a cloud formation somewhere, but just like you and me.
Jesus walked amongst us, knows what this life is like and how it can be with all its ups and downs. For me, in what has been a year of sudden physical disconnection, I take so much encouragement that we can tangibly know this God who connects to us.
This is God amongst us, God with us, God walking with us in our life. In a year of masks, 2m distancing, no handshakes and fear – Jesus is right in it with us.
This is the greatest gift, the best news – Jesus isn’t a baby in a manger, he isn’t just a good teacher and moral compass, he isn’t still nailed to a cross and lost to eternity in a grave.
Jesus is alive, no other name has the power to save, no other name is higher, and this Jesus is with us – right now, he is alive.
Happy Christmas from CVM – see you in 2021
